What Is a Poly Bubble Mailer and How Do You Use It? A Step-by-Step Guide
What is a poly bubble mailer, how does it work, and how do you safely pack a fragile product? A step-by-step usage guide from the adhesive seal to placing the packing slip.
A poly bubble mailer (air-bubble protective envelope) is a protective package that gets fragile and delicate products safely from the sender’s warehouse to the customer. It is polyethylene film on the outside and air-bubble cushioning on the inside, with a self-adhesive tape seal along the top edge. It is light, water-resistant, and cushions the product inside against impacts.
How Does a Poly Bubble Mailer Work?
The air bubbles on the inner surface of the envelope absorb the drop, compression and pressure shocks of the shipping process and keep them from reaching the product. The outer polyethylene film provides protection against water, moisture and scratches. The product is placed in the envelope, the protective strip on the adhesive seal is peeled off, and the flap is pressed down to close it leak-tight. The +5 cm flap allowance leaves room for the flap to seal comfortably.
Step-by-Step Poly Bubble Mailer Use
- Choose the right size — a size that leaves 1–2 cm of space around the product is ideal.
- Place the product in the envelope; if it is very delicate, also wrap it in thin foam/paper.
- If you are using a pocket model, place the packing slip/dispatch note in the clear outer pocket.
- With a plain model, you can put the packing slip inside or stick a thermal label on the outer surface.
- Peel the protective strip off the adhesive tape on the flap.
- Fold the flap over and press it down with your fingertip — leave no air gaps.
- Stick the shipping barcode on the outer surface (plain) or put it in the outer pocket (pocket).
The Most Common Mistakes
- Using too small an envelope — the product gets squeezed and the flap is strained
- Using too large an envelope — the product moves around inside and volumetric weight rises
- Shipping liquid/flowable products without extra leak-proofing
- Placing products with very sharp corners without extra corner protection
- Trying to seal without peeling off the adhesive protective strip
Should I Choose Pocket or Plain?
If you sell on marketplaces (Trendyol, Hepsiburada, N11), a pocket poly bubble mailer makes the operation easier. In high-volume warehouse operations with a thermal label system, plain is more economical (a 0.50 TL difference per piece). For a detailed comparison, see our pocket vs. plain guide.
