How to Pack Fragile Items: Safe Shipping with Poly Bubble Mailers
How do you safely pack fragile items such as glass, ceramics, electronics and cosmetics with a poly bubble mailer? A step-by-step protection guide for damage-free shipping.
In fragile-product shipping, the biggest cost item is the returns and re-shipments caused by damaged deliveries. With the right packaging, it is possible to largely reduce that risk to zero. The poly bubble mailer, with its air-bubble cushioning, is the most practical protection solution for small-to-medium delicate products. In this guide we explain the steps for damage-free shipping.
Why a Poly Bubble Mailer?
The air bubbles on the inner surface of a poly bubble mailer act as a cushion between the product and any external impact. While a flat (non-bubble) bag transmits the impact straight to the product, a poly bubble mailer absorbs and spreads it. The outer polyethylene film is a second protective layer against moisture and scratches.
Which Products Is It Suitable For?
- Electronics and phone accessories (cases, cables, headphones, chargers)
- Cosmetics and perfume (glass bottles, compacts, boxes)
- Jewelry, costume jewelry and watches
- Small glass and ceramic items (cups, figurines, plates)
- Books and magazines with fragile covers
- Gift items and small decorative pieces
Step-by-Step Safe Packing
- Choose a size that suits the product — 1–2 cm of space around it is enough; don’t leave too much.
- Wrap very delicate products (glass bottles, screens) in thin foam or stretch film first.
- If there are several small products, put dividers between them so they don’t touch.
- Place the product in the center of the poly bubble mailer; don’t push it against the corners.
- Peel off the adhesive protective strip on the flap and press firmly to seal.
- For products containing liquid, additionally put the product in a zip-lock bag.
- Stick the shipping label on a flat surface, near the flap rather than on the bubbles.
Common Mistakes
- Shipping a fragile product in a flat bag (the most common cause of damage)
- Using too large an envelope and letting the product knock around inside
- Shipping a very heavy/large glass item in an envelope alone (a box is needed)
- Sticking the label over the bubbles so the barcode cannot be read
